When you decide to homeschool your student, you become the administrator of your child’s education. You will register your student as a homeschooled student in your state. Then you will choose how your student will take their classes. Options include teaching your student at home, having your student take online classes, enrolling in a local co-op, and more. You will keep records of all of your student’s work. In high school, you will complete a homeschool transcript that includes all the classes your student has taken, and where they have taken those courses.
Follow these steps to get started:
- Check your local and state requirements for home educators.
- Each state has different requirements for home-educating parents. You can usually find these requirements by going to your state’s Department of Education page and looking for the link that deals with homeschooling. If you can’t find it, try searching the site for “homeschooling” or “home education.”
- The Academy encourages you to comply with all state regulations!
- Plan how to cover the required subjects.
- For an overview of the subjects required in middle school and high school, go to “Curriculum: Choosing the Right Courses.”
- Once you have an outline of what courses your student needs to take, you can decide which ones you would like to take at WTMA.
- Our Course Catalog Pages are a great resource for more specific information about our courses.
